The snowflakes are beginning to fall outside and we still have Hurricane Sandy fresh in our minds. In just one week, our lives in the Northeast U.S. have been forever changed. We have lived through one of the worst storms to ever hit our area. Some of us escaped unscathed with just minor inconveniences with our power and water supplies. Others lost everything. It amazes me how things can change so quickly not only from day to day, but minute to minute and second to second. A few days before Hurricane Sandy made landfall, I was able to witness and become part of an amazing moment between two people. I'd like to share a happy story in the wake of the recent devastation.
On Friday, October 26th, my husband, Nick, and I went into New York City for the day. We boarded a N.J. Transit Train headed to the PhotoPlus Expo at the Javits Center and also with the hopes of taking in some beautiful fall foliage in Central Park. We probably walked about 10 miles total that day, most of it through the park itself. Part of that walk included watching the people in rowboats by the Bow Bridge and Boathouse. I was standing on the Bow Bridge taking photos when Nick pointed out a couple in one of the boats. It only took a split second to realize that a proposal was under way. I was able to capture almost every moment of that proposal, from the ring being placed on the woman's finger to the kiss that sealed the deal. Afterwards the bride-to-be turned toward the people who had gathered on the bridge and held up a bouquet of red roses in one hand and showed us her engagement ring on the other. Everyone, including me, cheered. What a wonderful moment to witness. After taking the photos, I felt that I had to find out how to get in touch with this couple and share these wonderful photos of their special moment. Nick and I walked around to one side of the pond where we were able to get close to the couple. I asked them if they wanted me to e-mail the photos I had taken. They happily gave me their e-mail address and I was giddy at the event that had just occurred! It turns out that the happy couple was here on vacation from Brazil!
Unfortunately, I didn't get the photos retouched and ready as quickly as I would have liked, as computers require at least a little bit of power! Due to the digital size of the photos, I ended up putting them in a private collection on this website and sent the link and password to Beatriz and Eden, the happy couple. I asked for permission to show the photos of their happy day on Facebook and this blog. Beatriz quickly e-mailed me back thanking me for the photos and telling me the story of how she and Eden had met. And, she gave me permission to share these memories with all of you!
The Happy Couple, Beatriz and Eden!
(As told to me by Beatriz in her e-mail) It brings a tear to my eye each time I read it!
Our story began six years ago when I was studying in Boston and went to visit NY. By coincidence I hosted at his home in New York and has since not been apart more.
We went back to Brazil and, for many years we dated by distance. Only in May this year, Eden came to live in my city and we living together.
We decided to spend our vacation in "our" town, but I could not imagine he was going to do this surprise.
He rented the boat and near the bow bridge he set to play the song "Marry You" by Bruno Mars at his Iphone, and proposed on his knees with red roses, just like you saw. So cute.
Thank you for capturing this moment, and of course you can post on your blog and FaceBook page!!! We will love to share this moment.
We hope that every thing is fine over there, after hurricane.
Be safe and thanks again.
Beatriz and Eden.
